About Shooting With Film

Choosing to shoot all of the still photography for American Gun using analog film cameras was a simple decision based on authenticity. Still photography in the modern day has become synonymous with deception, digital manipulations meant to appear grander than reality. American Gun is all about the truthful depiction of the typical gun owner in America and capturing their images on film will give the audience an intimate look into their lives in a way they are not used to seeing. The film is shot, developed and scanned by us and will be published in all of its imperfect glory.

About The Filming Process

The SilencerCo media team ventures all across America to capture each individual’s story for these videos. This includes stressful traveling with late nights and early mornings. There is little time to relax; multiple times a day we pack, unpack, move, repack and unpack equipment again and again. Our limited production crew must work under pressure to scout last-minute locations and find subject placement and angles for a two-camera setup with complex lighting and audio recording.

We also obtain B-roll footage in 6K digital format in its raw element. With a total of two to three days to film, A LOT is packed into a short timeframe. Then, the arduous editing process begins. It takes two to three weeks to extract a story from a combination of interview and candid footage. The result is a very worthwhile collection of videos displaying so many unique perspectives for why people exercise their second amendment rights.
